Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has proven himself keen to press on with recruitment this month, as he attempts to guide the Eagles away from the relegation places.
Fans of the South London club here in The Transfer Tavern by the prospect of welcoming new faces to the club in recent weeks, and were seen to be toasting the imminent arrival of West Ham United’s Diafra Sakho, after reports had strongly linked the player with a move to Selhurst Park. However our landlord had to put the champagne on ice, by informing our disheartened Palace bunch that he had seen on Twitter that Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones had revealed that both Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion have made late moves to hijack the deal.
Sakho was a revelation during his first year in East London, but like many at the club, has failed to adapt to his new surroundings at The London Stadium in Stratford. Now well down the pecking order under new boss David Moyes, it appears the player will be moved on this month, although his destination remains up in the air.
Landlord’s Verdict: Sakho could still do a job at West Ham, so it is no surprise to see Premier League clubs scrambling to secure his signature. The 28-year-old is a powerful forward with an eye for goal, and with each of the three clubs chasing him all in trouble towards the foot of the table, it is no surprise to see a desire to bring the player to the club.
With West Ham also in the relegation mix it is a surprise to see Moyes willing to sell to a relegation rival, but perhaps this highlights the confidence the Scot possesses in his side’s ability to pull clear of danger. Wherever Sakho ends up, he will do a job.
