Isaac Hayden has missed out on Newcastle’s last three matches due to the rise of the Longstaff brothers, but now the midfielder looks set to start for the Magpies at West Ham.
Hayden, who has averaged 3.1 interceptions this season as per WhoScored.com, is in line for a return to the fold as Steve Bruce ponders his midfield options following the suspension of Sean Longstaff last weekend, according to the Chronicle.
The Englishman had previously been a key player for Newcastle in central midfield, averaging a pass success rate of 79.7% and registering an assist against Watford – setting up Fabian Schar in their 1-1 draw at home to the Hornets.
In comparison with last campaign, the 24-year-old made 25 appearances, scoring once and assisting four as Newcastle comfortably avoided relegation.
Now, with another battle to avoid the drop on the horizon, Bruce will be looking to reinstall Hayden’s place following a spell out through suspension – with other former key names likely to be considered as well.
Jonjo Shelvey and Ki Sung-yueng are also tipped to return to the starting eleven, with the former returning from a hamstring injury which has seen him miss the last few games.
Indeed, Bruce will be happy with the potential selection at his disposal despite Longstaff’s suspension – with former key names like Hayden and Shelvey providing much-needed options ahead of a testing trip to the London Stadium.
Newcastle fans, are you happy to see Hayden return? What would your starting eleven be for Saturday?
