The Daily Mail have made a sensational claim here in the Football Transfer Tavern and it is one that has Newcastle United fans looking more than a little bit interested.
The publication claims that Lyon forward Bafetimbi Gomis has asked to leave Lyon at the end of the season and has spoken to RMC in order to get his point across in a crystal clear manner.
He said: “I think at the end of the season, it’s time for me to go elsewhere.”
The forward did try and force a move in the summer, even trying to go on strike.
Newcastle and their manager Alan Pardew are huge fans of the forward and the Magpies boss is willing to once again make a move for the player.
The club are keen to add to their ranks up top and see the forward as the ideal man to add some more firepower. A loan move for former star Demba Ba could possibly be on the cards should another forward come into the picture at Stamford Bridge, but Newcastle are looking for firmer options in the summer.
They will have to fight it out with at least one other side, with Marseille also keen on taking the forward. Gomis himself is thought to want a move abroad in order to try something new and further his career and as one of our punters notes, at 28 that could well be his last chance to do so.
Is Gomis the latest star to join the French revolution on Tyneside in the summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
