Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been given a bit of a confidence boost today after reports have indicated one of their potential January signings and it’s one that would leave them feeling optimistic.
According to reports from the Chronicle, the North East strugglers are setting their sights firmly on young Werder Bremen defender, Jannik Vestergaard, but he will not be cheap.
The Danish centre-half has been at Werder Bremen since January this year after joining from Hoffenheim but reports suggest that Newcastle boss, Steve McClaren, is keen to secure the services of the 6 foot 7 youngster.
The Bundesliga side have said they are only willing to sell the Danish international but only if the Premier League side pay £15m for his services.
It’s understood that the Magpies were interested to sign the dominant defender in the summer but Werder Bremen had claimed that he wasn’t for sale, however Vestergaard may find himself packing his bags and on his way to England if the price tag is met.
At only 23-years-old, Newcastle will be more than willing to contemplate paying the asking price for the defender, especially with the amount of potential he has shown already in his promising career.
