So Martin Dubravka might be the safest pair of hands at Newcastle United, yet the Magpies have suffered due to some of his clangers in the season just gone.

Despite being a solid shot-stopper and a hugely popular figure in goal, he ended up making noticeable errors, as painful as it is to admit.

While it’s still uncertain whether the Spaniard will continue at Tyneside, he’s making sure to structure the Magpies' squad well to compete higher next season. Indeed, they’ve identified a better goalkeeper to keep them defensively stronger and according to reports from Paris United (via the Chronicle), are aiming to sign Kevin Trapp from Paris Saint-Germain.

Perhaps there are more pressing concerns but this, believe it or not, would be a good deal, despite the obvious love-in for Dubravka.

The German shot-stopper had an impressive loan stint with Eintracht Frankfurt this season, keeping 8 clean sheets in the Bundesliga and saving them from despair time and again. He also averaged 3.2 saves per game (stats via WhoScored), thwarting away many chances. While Dubravka also did a fine job at keeping 11 clean-sheets last season, Trapp’s a step up.

With a future at PSG looking bleak, he can finally prove himself in the Premier League. Trapp’s excellent shot-stopping ability, agility in the box and quick reflexes can help the Magpies absorb pressure pretty well. Indeed, it's just a touch more expansive.

Trapp already knows how to thrive at the biggest stage possible, which makes him a big name signing for Newcastle. The Magpies' defence will definitely benefit from such a commendable figure behind them, as the 28-year-old can also be healthy competition to keep Dubravka on his toes.
