Newcastle United are one of several clubs chasing highly rated Vitesse Arnhem striker Wilfried Bony this summer, according to talkSPORT who claim that the Magpies are set to table a £12 million bid.
The Ivory Coast international forward is thought to be high on Alan Pardew’s transfer wishlist this summer after owner Mike Ashley promised to back his manager by recruiting a top class striker after the controversial appointment of Joe Kinnear as director of football.
After losing Demba Ba to Chelsea in January, the Magpies were too close for comfort in regards to the relegation battle they faced last term and Pardew knows that the 24-year-old striker would be an excellent addition as he looks to improve on last season
Bony fits the usual profile of an up and coming star that the Magpies are seemingly targeting in the transfer market and Geordie punters in the tavern would be delighted to see him arrive this summer.
The St. James’ Park club will have to compete with Everton, Swansea City and Russian big spenders Anzhi Makhachkala for Bony’s signature who scored 31 times in the Dutch top flight last term and is valued at around £15 million by his current Eredivisie employers.
