The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern aren’t overly confident of the summer panning out any differently than years gone by. Indeed, the punters propping up our bar can’t believe recent reports suggesting there was once again a standoff between Rafa Benitez and Mike Ashley and hope things are sorted out as soon as humanly possible.
As you can imagine, our resident Geordies really are eager to put any doubts about Benitez’s long-term future to the back of their minds and, at least reports from the Sun’s Alan Nixon have allowed that to happen, even ever so briefly.
Taking to Twitter, Nixon revealed that Stoke City are keen on a move for Toon striker Dwight Gayle as the Potters plot a promotion challenge. The former Crystal Palace forward is a regular for the Magpies, though our punters clad in black and white wouldn’t mind seeing him depart this summer as they look for an updrage.
However, despite interest in the 28-year-old, he’s reportedly wanting to stay on Tyneside, which isn’t hard to believe considering the fact he’s playing in the Premier League.
Newcastle United simply must Gayle out. He’s been a good servant to the club since joining from Crystal Palace, though it’s time the Magpies move on. Funds will probably be light on the ground right now, so the Toon Army need to be ruthless and try to earn what they can off of him.
