The Newcastle United fans who are competing in a darts tournament in The Transfer Tavern this evening are discussing reports that the club’s manager has made training more intense for the players.
The Daily Mail is reporting that Rafael Benitez has scrapped the players days off and order them in for double training sessions as he looks to help the club avoid relegation from the Premier League.
This weekend sees the most important Tyne Wear derby to date and with Newcastle facing the trip to the Stadium of Light having lost their previous eight games away from home, Benitez wants to make sure that every detail is covered.
It will be a culture shock to the players who were given 72 hours off before a game under previous manager Steve McClaren but one the Benitez feels is important due to the club’s perilous state.
A source close to the club said ‘The new manager has come in and made a real impression. He has an aura about him and immediately has everyone’s respect.
‘It was certainly needed. It looks like he’s going to do everything in his power to keep them up.’
The Newcastle United fans in The Tavern are delighted with the news and think it’s about time the players were made to work harder than ever at this important time for the club.
