The Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern are praying that the club invests some money this January because otherwise a relegation battle will commence. While Newcastle are currently safe, one or two injuries could see them slip back into the bottom three. Indeed, Rafa Benitez is most concerned by the lack of attacking options he has available to him.
This is why he should make a swoop for Celtic star Scott Sinclair. Sinclair has resurrected his career since moving north of the border and he has impressed in green and white. The former Swansea City and Aston Villa man was the second top scorer in the Scottish Premiership last season, netting 21 goals for the Bhoys.
This season, he is up there in the goal scoring charts again and his tally of eight goals sees him rank as the third top scorer in the top flight of Scottish football. The former Chelsea youth product is now finally starting to show why he was so highly rated as a youngster.
The 28-year-old is naturally a winger but he provides goals from midfield and this is something Newcastle desperately need.
Newcastle’s chances of signing Sinclair are probably helped by his international ambitions. The former England under-21 international will be hoping to make the senior squad still, though Gareth Southgate is seemingly not interested in picking him while he plays in the Scottish Premiership. A move to the Premier League would boost his chances of making the World Cup squad and would provide Newcastle with a different dimension in attack too.
