Newcastle United plan cut price swoop

bent.jpgThere is news filtering into the Football Transfer Tavern this morning that Newcastle United are interested in signing Aston Villa outcast Darren Bent after Alan Pardew made him a chief transfer target for the summer.

Neil Moxley from Mail Online reports that the Magpies are looking to fetch former Sunderland ace Bent back to the North East in a cut price deal with the St. James’ Park club understanding that around £6 million will be enough to seal the deal.

The 29-year-old forward has struggled for game time at Villa Park under the management of Paul Lambert following his £18 million transfer from Sunderland in January 2011 and the former England international is thought to be desperate to end his nightmare spell with the Midlands club during the off-season.

Bent’s wages of £70,000-a-week are likely put off any possible suitors but the former Spurs striker understands he will have to take a pay-cut to secure a move away from Villa. Lambert is close to bringing Denmark international striker Nicklas Helenius to the side which is likely to spell the end of Bent’s time with Villa and Newcastle are ready to pounce.

Newcastle fans. Would you feel happy accepting a former Sunderland striker in Bent? Let us know your thoughts below.
