Metro have the Manchester City fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern on the edge of their seats as they claim that one of their defenders could well be on the way out of the club this summer.
As one of our punters notes, it is hardly like the club are overrun with defenders at the minute.
Given the injuries that keep racking up, you could be forgiven for thinking that they would want to keep everyone they have at their current disposal.
That is not the case, with England international Micah Richards being tracked by Newcastle United. The right back has seen his star fade somewhat in the last couple of seasons. Despite Roberto Mancini no longer being at the club, replacement boss Manuel Pellegrini is not too keen on him either.
Luckily for Richards, Newcastle and Joe Kinnear are keen on him and have been aware of his situation for some time now. Alan Pardew needs new players this winter after a rather flat summer, and Richards could be the first one to join.
The player himself is open to a move – and given the fact that it is World Cup year, Richards knows that to have any chance at all of making the squad, he has to be playing week in, week out for his club side. With the current form of Pablo Zabaleta, that will not be happening any time soon at the Etihad Stadium.
Our landlord points out that there was a new deal on the table for Richards this summer, yet the right back chose not to sign it. Given he does not seem to be featuring in his new manager’s plans, we can hardly blame him.
Will Richards make the move to the Toon? Let us know your thoughts below.
