Here in the Football Transfer Tavern fans are looking shocked at the rumour from Metro who think that Chelsea striker Demba Ba could well be in line for a shock return to St. James’ Park.
In what would literally be a case of a player returning to a club with his tail between his legs, Ba is now thought to be in talks with the Magpies and is set to return to the club he made his name in the Premier League with.
As anyone with eyes could tell you, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has clearly been less than impressed with the forwards on offer this season, and after seeing Demba Ba feature for 60 dismal minutes against Aston Villa, Mourinho chose to go without an out and out forward against Manchester United.
Ba is fully aware that chances under Mourinho will be few and far between and as one of our punters quips, we all know how well Mourinho can freeze out players should he wish to.
Iker Casillas is still frozen to the Real Madrid bench, even after the Special One departed Spanish shores.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew for his part is fully aware that Ba is a quality striker when in a big fish, small pond scenario and is keen to bring the forward back to the North East.
Hopefully for Geordie fans, that magic speed dial of Joe Kinnear’s will work its magic and get Mourinho and the Blues board to agree a fee and allow Ba to return to Tyneside.
Will Demba Ba complete a rather swift return to Newcastle United? Was he ever good enough for Chelsea? Let us know your thoughts below.
