Newcastle United plotting January move for clinical 26-year-old striker

austin33Newcastle fans here enjoying a game of darts in the Transfer Tavern have got excited at the rumours reported in the Daily Star that their club are set to renew their interest in striker Charlie Austin in the January window.

The English forward was subject to interest from several clubs over the summer including Newcastle and Leicester but with Queens Park Rangers refusing to budge from their £15m asking price – turning down all offers that feel short, a move failed to materialise and he remained at the London club.

Austin had a fantastic debut season in the Premier League scoring 18 goals in 36 appearances, and a total beaten only by Diego Costa, Sergio Aguero and fellow England striker Harry Kane. It was unfortunately not enough to keep his side from relegation however, and the striker is said to be keen on a move back to the top flight.

However, Newcastle are said to still be unwilling to pay the £15m that Queens Park Rangers are holding out for, but are hoping the club will lower their asking price in an attempt to cash in on the player before his contract expires at the end of the season.
