Newcastle fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hoping their club can pursue the best available targets as the club look to bounce straight back into the Premier League.
According to The Shields Gazette, the Magpies are weighing up a summer move for Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker.
The defender has already had loan spells at two Premier League sides this season at Liverpool and Southampton, but the 24-year-old has struggled to make enough of an impression to earn a permanent stay.
With a busy transfer window coming up at St James’ Park it will be imperative that the club get defensive reinforcements in ahead of a relentless season in the Championship.
With Caulker being allowed to leave Loftus Road this summer, he could be one of Rafa Benitez’s first signings if he can agree a deal to stay on.
And with long-serving defender Steven Taylor out of contract this summer, it is unlikely he will get rewarded with a new deal.
Our resident Magpies fans think this would be an odd addition to the side, and aren’t sure Caulker is the man to lead the defence next season….
