The Newcastle fans here in the Tavern are up in arms about their current form and league position and it looks likely that there will soon be a change in manager at St. James’ Park.
That, at least, is something that the Toon Army will drink to, as The Guardian report current manager Steve McClaren looks set to be on his way out after a torrid season so far, that is leaving a major uphill task over the remaining ten games to preserve their Premier League status.
What appeared to be a risk last summer when he was appointed has failed to work out- and the former England boss’ days now look numbered.
The ever-optimistic Newcastle faithful are seeing several big-name managers linked and as the ones in here are saying, a change is now desperately needed.
McClaren has won only seven of his 32 games in charge and with ten league remaining, Newcastle are currently second bottom, and although still only a point from safety a big improvement is needed.
Some of the names being linked include David Moyes, Brendan Rodgers and Rafael Benitez. It is difficult to think that any of these bosses would not do a better job than McClaren on current form but if a change is to be made then it needs to be made pretty sharp-ish to give the new man the best possible chance.
Either way, things must improve at Newcastle pretty soon and the long-suffering Toon Army faithful here in the Tavern will certainly drink to that!
