Newcastle United will be looking to strengthen in the summer transfer window as they will want to build on this season’s exploits and fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting a number of movements.
Rafa Benitez’s future is still in doubt at the club, although he is optimistic a deal can be met with the assurances he wants and the locals will be hoping he is still at the helm come the start of the football calendar.
The Spaniard is keen on bringing a number of players to St. James’ Park to help strengthen the side and he could be set to reunite with one of his former players from his days at Liverpool, according to reports in Turkey.
Fotomac, via the Newcastle Chronicle, are claiming that Martin Skrtel has been offered to the Magpies for a cut-price deal, with the veteran defender keen on a return to England’s top-flight.
The 33-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to join Steven Gerrard and Rangers, however, a move appears to have broken down and Fenerbahce are keen to offload him this summer.
Skrtel, who worked with Benitez during their days at Anfield, would add some valuable experience to the Newcastle side but a number of the locals in the bar will be concerned that he is too old to do a solid job at the back in the Premier League for them.
