Premier League outfit Newcastle United are desperate to avoid returning to the Championship as they look to fight off relegation.
Their supporters here in the Transfer Tavern have been pleased that boss Steve McClaren has looked to sign players with more Premier League experience, and it looks as though new recruit Jonjo Shelvey is about to be joined by another player with ample top flight pedigree.
An article in The Express indicates that the Magpies have lost patience with summer signing Florian Thauvin and are hopeful of sending him back to Marseille during the transfer window, whilst using the funds raised to sign Spurs misfit Andros Townsend.
Townsend has a list of suitors but Newcastle would offer him the chance to play regular first-team football, which he desperately needs if he is to make the plane for England’s Euro 2016 campaign in France this summer.
One Magpies die-hard here in the Tavern is desperate for the club to pull off the signing of Townsend, and thinks he is exactly the type of attacking player they need in order to fend off relegation!
