The Daily Mail have disappointing news for Newcastle United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that the club could well be set to miss out on one of their top summer targets.
The club are thought to be very keen on Mrseille’s Andre-Pierre Gignac and had even made an offer for the player earlier in the week thought to be in the region of £12 million.
Now it seems that the Magpies are set to miss out on the player – who has been capped 16 times for France – as the forward considers a move to a bigger club.
In news that will not please Mike Ashley or indeed the man now in charge of transfers Joe Kinnear, it seems that Gignac is holding out to see if another club makes a move for him.
A transfer to the Premier League is still on his radar, yet a move to Everton – a club he sees as having more potential – is what the forward has instructed his agent to push for.
It is also not unthinkable that the striker has spoken to French national compatriot Yohan Cabaye about the state of the club currently and been advised against a move. Newcastle are determined to land the forward and are willing to up their bid should it be deemed necessary.
