Newcastle United should look towards England striker to bolster survival chances

Newcastle United endured a short stay in the Sky Bet Championship and will next season mix it up with the big boys of the Premier League once again, with every emphasis being placed on ensuring that they do not come straight back down.

One area in which the Magpies will certainly need to stock up in is up front with the club scoring nowhere near enough goals during the season in which they succumbed to relegation from the top flight.

One man who should be right at the top of Newcastle’s list of targets, is England striker Jermain Defoe, with the little poacher set to leave Sunderland following their relegation to the second tier.

The 34-year-old has a contract with the Black Cats until 2019 but according to www.transfermarkt.co.uk he could be available for the paltry sum of £5.53 million, which should be music to the Magpies’ ears.

A couple of Newcastle fans are sampling a pint in the sunshine in the Football Transfer Tavern’s beer garden and they are of the belief that the signing of Defoe would give the team an excellent chance of staying in the division during the next campaign, whilst also give them one over their fierce rivals Sunderland.

Despite the Black Cats struggling during the 2016/17 campaign veteran striker Defoe has been in fine form smashing 14 goals from his 37 appearances and his name is bound to be on the lips of several managers during the summer months.

Our landlord is intrigued by this opinion of one of our punters and he thinks that Defoe would be worshiped by the Newcastle faithful, stating that his arrival could be the first step on the road to Premier League stability for the Magpies.

Newcastle fans, would you welcome Defoe to the club? Let us know in the comments below!!!
