Newcastle are yet to win a game in the Premier League this season and find themselves in real danger already.
The Magpies were handed an extremely tough start and picked up just one point from their opening four fixtures. Things did not get any easier after the international break with a visit from Arsenal on the cards. Goals from Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil were enough to secure three points for the Gunners and inflict further pain upon Rafael Benitez.
Despite the defeat, it was arguably Newcastle’s best performance of the season. While their defence looked sturdier than normal, the Magpies once again failed to get going in attack. Benitez lacks a true creative midfielder who can unlock a defence and must address his issue when the January transfer window reopens.
One man he should consider is Jiangsu Suning midfielder – Alex Teixeira. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, the Brazilian was linked with a move to the Premier League back in 2016 with Liverpool extremely keen to bring him to Anfield. The Reds were unable to reach an agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk, and Teixeira instead opted for a huge money move to China. However, reports back in December suggested he was transfer listed by his club and looking for an exit route.
The 28-year-old has nine goals in 20 appearances in the Chinese Super League this season but is yet to make an appearance for the Brazilian national team. If he wants to force his way into Tite’s plans – moving to the Premier League could be what he needs to do.
Teixeira is a skilful dribbler who can unlock defences with his passing as well as having an excellent eye for goal. The playmaker will be eager to make up for lost time and show Liverpool exactly what they missed out on.
