Newcastle United striker vows to fight for place at club

Papiss CisseNewcastle United fans playing darts in The Transfer Tavern are not convinced by comments made by a player that he is willing to fight for his place.

The Chronicle is reporting that Papiss Cisse has vowed to get back into the Newcastle starting line up and score the goals to fire them to safety.

Cisse has played second fiddle to both Alexander Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez this season, and has seen his first team appearances restricted to just eight this campaign.

Cisse has struggled for form over the last couple of seasons, and it has got to the stage where the fans are not convinced by his performances when he does get an opportunity.

Speaking about his desire to break back into the side and his uncertain future at the club Cisse said:

“That’s the life of a footballer sometimes. It’s hard for me but I always say I will keep going, and keep my smile all the time.”

“I know who I am and what I can bring to the team. I just wait. As I say, I know myself and what I can bring. If I play I will get chances to score and win games for Newcastle.”

“I haven’t had that chance of late so I need to keep going. When I go into work, I work hard. I know I must keep being busy and working. It feels like you’ve worked for nothing after a week of training when you don’t play.”

“In my head I feel like I’ve done nothing. But I must keep going.”

The Newcastle United fans in The Transfer Tavern are not at all convinced by the players comments, and believe the club should sell Cisse in January and spend the money on a striker who can add to their side.

With Newcastle languishing at the bottom of the table, a potential departure for Cisse would free-up some much needed funds in the transfer market for Steve McClaren- which may prove to be invaluable.

Newcastle fans, is it time for Cisse to go? Let us know in the comments below!
