Newcastle United fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern never quite know what to expect from their side, or indeed the several summer signings the club has made this summer.
Our landlord points out that the Magpies have been one of the Premier League’s busiest clubs during this transfer window, with Marseille winger Florian Thauvin the latest player to sign on at St James’ Park.
The France Under-21 winger is set to cost in the region of £12million, whilst another French winger Remy Cabella has moved to Marseille in the opposite direction on a season long loan, having failed to make any sort of impact for the Toon Army.
Thauvin’s arrival looks set to take Newcastle’s spending close to the £50million mark, however former Magpies midfielder and club legend Robert Lee, reckons the club’s latest big money signing is something of a gamble.
The former England midfielder said to the Daily Star: “From what I hear, he definitely has the pace to make it in the Premier League but can he handle the physical side?
“Remy Cabella certainly couldn’t. He was a bit of a lightweight and just didn’t get going. He will be no real loss.
“I hope Thauvin is a success but he’s not proven in the Premier League and that is always a worry.”
Our resident Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern have high hopes for Thauvin, and admit it may take him a couple of games to adapt the Premier League!
