Newcastle United fans have found themselves recieving plenty of stick from the Swansea City supporters inside the Football Transfer Tavern, following the news from Sky Sports that striker Wilfried Bony is keen on a move to the South Wales club.
Bony is thought to have been a long-term target for the Magpies, although now it appears Swansea are the front runners for the powerful striker, who finished last season as the top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie.
Bony himself has spoken of his excitement at a potential switch
“The clubs are now talking to each other, Swansea has made Vitesse a bid and I hope it’s good,” Bony told Voetbal International.
“Swansea is a wonderful club. It’s my chance to play in the Premier League and they also play attractive football.
“I understood from my agent that Swansea want to pay €12million for me and that is what Vitesse want to receive, so I hope there is some good news soon.”
The comments have forced his club Vitesse to come out and issue a statement saying that no deal has yet been agreed for the 24-year-old striker, with Swansea or any other club.
“Various media have reported that Wilfried Bony is to transfer to Premier League club Swansea City. This message is incorrect,” said the statement.
“There is admittedly much interest in the striker, the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season, and Swansea City are one of the interested clubs. However, a transfer is not the case.
The signing would be a major coup for the Swans, after the striker scored an astonishing 31 goals in 30 games in the Netherlands last season.
