Newcastle United fans are looking even more distressed today in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by The Sun that they could well be set to miss out on one of their top targets as Hull City’s Steve Bruce looks to snatch him out from under their noses.
It has already been a hard summer for Magpies fans what with the issues Wonga have brought them both publicly and in house with their players and now the hiring of the unpopular Joe Kinnear. Now it seems that Alan Pardew could even be set to lose out on Darren Bent – a forward he had set his heart on luring to St. James’ Park to give the club some much needed firepower.
Bent of course has suffered under Paul Lambert at Villa Park and is in no shock on his way out of the club. Steve Bruce however has ideas about netting the former Sunderland player who has already made it clear back in 2009 that he did not want to join Hull City, yet a source close to the club noted: “Hull wouldn’t baulk at meeting Villa’s asking price.
“Steve made Bent his first signing at Sunderland and he rates him very highly. Hull know they need to boost their firepower going into the top flight.”
Should Newcastle up their chase for Bent? Should they be chasing him anyway? Rate this rumour below.
