There is already a sense of anticipation in the Football Transfer Tavern ahead of this weekend’s Premier League action.
The highlight of the fixtures list surely comes in the lunchtime kick off, which is being shown live on BT Sport, as Newcastle United travel to Old Trafford to take on the reigning Premier League champions Manchester United.
Ahead of this match, a group of Magpies supporters are sat around the bar discussing possible transfer targets for the upcoming window.
One name on the agenda is Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis and now David Wright from The Express chips in to claim that Alan Pardew could make his move for the prolific goal scorer in Janaury.
The news comes after Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas revealed that he expected to lose the 28-year-old in the upcoming window, with bids appearing likely from Newcastle and West Ham.
Gomis, who has found the net four times this season, has been strongly linked with a Premier League switch since the summer, when Pardew was close to agreeing a deal for the powerful striker.
And Aulas admits that he fully expects a number of requests for the player’s services in the winter window.
“It’s not impossible that there will be several offers for Gomis. We will see,” he told the French media.
“We don’t have any means for winter reinforcements. Maybe there will be some modifications but not big ones.”
Will Gomis now arrive at St. James’ Park in the New Year? Let us know your thoughts below.
