Newcastle United to step up pursuit to sign former Arsenal target

GameiroNewcastle fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are hoping recent rumours will inspire the squad after the Sunday People revealed they are interested in Kevin Gameiro.

The Frenchman is on Newcastle’s radar after chief scout Graham Carr recommended him to John Carver.

The 27-year-old is an experienced hitman having already played at Paris Saint-Germain and Sevilla.

Gameiro was a target for Arsenal a few seasons ago, however a move never materialised.

Carr attended Sevilla’s 3-1 win over Villarreal in the Europa League and Gameiro set up a goal inside 14 seconds.

So the 5ft 7 striker left an instant impression and just to keep himself in Newcastle’s mind, he scored in the 50th minute.

The forward is expected to set Mike Ashley back £10 million if they look to pursue the striker further.

Newcastle are preparing for the potential exit of Papiss Cisse who could leave the Premier League outfit summer.
