The phone in the Football Transfer Tavern is ringing off the hook today as reporters call in to offer the latest transfer news as the deadline comes into view.
As yet it’s been an entirely frustrating day for the few Newcastle United supporters in the tavern, but now Joe Mewis from The Mirror has informed us that Newcastle could move for West Ham United’s Ravel Morrison in a last ditch move.
Yohan Cabaye left to join Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the week but Alan Pardew has been unable to find a replacement for the French international.
However Mewis now reports that West Ham midfielder Morrison, who has recently declared his interest at leaving Upton Park, could be a very late target for the St. James’ Park club.
Fulham had reportedly been interested in trying to sign the former Manchester United playmaker, but West Ham were unwilling to sell him to one of their relegation rivals.
A major sticking point in this transfer is likely to be the asking price with the Hammers seeking £15 million for the England Under-21 international, and that could make any transfer difficult with just hours remaining under the transfer window closes.
The Magpies had earlier seen a bid rejected for top target Lyon’s Clement Grenier, and surprisingly they have not returned with a improved offer, much to the annoyance of Geordies in the bar.
This could leave Pardew’s side looking short, unless they can complete a surprise deal for Morrison.
