Newcastle United will let fan favourite leave in January

Papiss CisseNewcastle United fans at the bar in The Transfer Tavern are drowning their sorrows at a report that a popular player will be sold by the club in January.

The Northern Echo is reporting that the club are looking at offering Senegalese international Papiss Cisse on the market, as Steve McClaren has been told he has to sell before he can buy.

The news will not be what the fans will want to hear, as Cisse has been a vital part of the squad and one of the better forward players the club have at present. 30-year-old Cisse joined the club in January 2012 and went on to score 13 goals in his first 14 appearances.

Cisse has not looked back since then and has been held in high regard at St James Park and since his arrival he has scored 35 goals in 102 appearances for the North East side. Prior to Newcastle, Cisse had carved out a successful career with Metz and Frieburg which prompted the Geordies to part with £9 million to secure the strikers services.

Steve McClaren knows he has no choice but to sell the striker as he is looking to raise funds to buy another striker, as the club look to move away from the relegation zone.

Newcastle United fans currently in The Transfer Tavern look bewildered by the news that the striker could be set for pastures new come January.
