The difficult times at Newcastle United have turned many faithful Magpie followers to the brink here in the Transfer Tavern and it looks like manager Steve McClaren is becoming desperate and is to give struggling forward Emmanuel Riviere a chance.
According to the Chronicle Live, Newcastle are to give the French forward a chance to prove himself at St James’ Park and ignore any requests to take the 25-year-old on loan.
Riviere has been linked with a loan switch to Championship side Wolves recently, once the player returns from his current knee injury. However with Papiss Cisse also out through injury, McClaren may well be hesitant to let any other players leave the club at this time.
Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez played well in Newcastle’s 2-2 at home to Chelsea on Saturday and look to be the forward line for the foreseeable future. Riviere, once fit, would be support to these two forwards but is not an ideal option to get Newcastle out of trouble considering his poor debut season last year.
Riviere arrived in 2014 from Monaco for £5 million and scored only one Premier League goal in his 23 appearances.
With Newcastle currently second from bottom of the league it has many punters in the Transfer Tavern scratching their head as to whether he or indeed McClaren are the right men for the job.
Newcastle fans, should Riviere be sent on-loan or does your squad need him? Comment your views below!
