Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are optimistic for the future under Rafael Benitez and our punters are confident the Magpies can finish in a European place next season.
The Spaniard guided the Championship winners to tenth place in the Premier League despite a summer of little investment from owner Mike Ashley. If Ashley is willing to give Benitez some transfer funds now the window is open, there is no reason they can’t finish in a European place next season.
Middlesbrough missed out on promotion to the Premier League after losing to Aston Villa in the playoff semi-finals which could see a number of their star players opt to leave in search of top-flight football. One man who could be set for an exit could be ex-Barcelona winger – Adama Traore. The 22-year-old enjoyed an excellent season in the Championship and could be an excellent signing for Newcastle.
Indeed, if the Toon Army cannot bring Kenedy back to St. James’ Park this summer – and the Brazilian has been linked with bigger clubs – perhaps the former Aston Villa man could be a cheaper alternative.
Valued at £7.2m-rated by Transfermarkt, Traore netted five goals and assisted ten for Tony Pulis’ side. With blistering pace and power, the Spaniard is a nightmare for defenders. Remarkably, he averaged seven dribbles per game in the Championship last season, more than any other player in the division according to WhoScored.
Under Benitez, he could develop into a huge player for the Magpies. He has struggled for consistency in recent seasons but St. James’ Park could be the perfect place for him to fulfil his massive potential.
