Newcastle United supporters have been pretty upbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few weeks after seeing their team lose just one of their last six Premier League games to put some distance between themselves and the bottom three.
Rafa Benitez’s men were just two points clear of danger following their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City back in January, but they have since then won two and drawn three of their six league matches to move up to 13th place in the table. The Magpies produced a fantastic display to beat Manchester United 1-0 last month before backing that up with a vital 3-0 win over fellow relegation candidates Southampton in their last league outing, a victory which moved them five points clear of the relegation zone with just eight games of the season remaining.
Subsequently, there have been many happy Newcastle fans in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be interested by a recent report from The Northern Echo, which suggests that left back Massadio Haidara looks set to leave the club in the summer.
The 25-year-old made the move to St James’ Park back in 2013 but has since then managed just 53 appearances for the North East giants, of which just 37 have come in the Premier League.
And with just one FA Cup appearance to his name this season, it’s clear that the former France youth international is extremely low down on Benitez’s pecking order, and reports suggest that the £1.35 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) is ‘not expected’ to be at the club come the start of next season.
And given how little football he has played in recent times, the expected departure of Haidara this summer appears to be in the best interests of all parties involved.
Landlord’s verdict: Massadio Haidara has not enjoyed the best of spells at Newcastle since his move to the club back in 2013, although injury troubles have played a part in his struggles in the North East.
Nonetheless, the 25-year-old has just 53 appearances to show for his efforts in the last five years, and with just one FA Cup appearance this season, it’s clear that his time at the club is coming to an end.
And reports suggest just that as the left back is ‘not expected’ to be at St James’ Park come the start of the 2018/19 campaign, in news which is unlikely to faze our resident Magpies fans too greatly given how low down the defender is on Rafa Benitez’s pecking order.
