£15m-rated ace reportedly on Benitez’s radar ahead of big summer for Newcastle

Newcastle United will be looking to strengthen in the summer and fans in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping the club can spend a significant amount of money to bring in experienced figures.

The Magpies will remain in the Premier League after some solid results during 2018, and manager Rafa Benitez is keen on making a number of additions to his side to try and take them to the next level, and thus avoid the struggles of this season.

And, according to The Daily Mail, the Spaniard has identified his defence as an area for improvement, and is expected to chase West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson following their confirmed relegation to the Championship.

The central defender is expected to be a transfer target for a number of top clubs, as is his partner Jonny Evans, and is thought to cost around £15 million to lure him away from The Hawthorns – Celtic are also thought to be keen on the Englishman.

The 28-year-old would help improve the Magpies backline immediately, whilst also giving captain Jamaal Lascelles an experienced partner that he can learn from and thus develop his game even further.

Landlord’s Verdict: The Newcastle fans in the Tavern will be urging the club to back Benitez financially in the transfer market in what could be a big summer for the club, what with our resident Magpies supporters hoping for reinforcements that can re-establish them as a top-flight outfit once again.

Many believe that Dawson will be a good signing to help them improve at the back, with punters hoping that the club can act quickly as they know the Baggies defender will be in high-demand, and as such will not want to lose out on a viable target.
