2 players Newcastle United must have kept an eye on during the international break

Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern are growing increasingly confident as they look to improve on an impressive start to the season.

After the recent 1-1 draw with Liverpool, the Toon Army have looked to be going on leaps and bounds after starting the Premier League season strongly under Rafael Benitez’s reign. They currently sit 9th in the table on 10 points after 7 games, which is a pretty healthy return for the Toon army.

Many tipped the Magpies for relegation prior to the season starting but many of the punters here at the Tavern believe that with the addition of a few new men that are able to provide strength in depth and calmness and fluidity the Tyneside club can really cement their place in the Premier League.

However, a few regulars here in the Tavern feel that Benitez needs to look into acquiring the services of a clinical striker and another central midfield maestro. Due to Newcastle being ranked 18th in passing success rate, many believe they need a holding presence.

With Mikel Merino and Jonjo Shelvey able to pass the ball, someone to sit between them would get the most out of the pair.

Indeed, another area of somewhat concern is the striking department with Joselu and Aleksandar Mitrovic proving the only strikers to score this season, amid a raft of missed chances.

With that in mind, here are 2 players the Landlord believes Newcastle should have been weighing up over the break in football.
