Newcastle fans don’t like to be reminded of the 2015/16 season, with some here in the Transfer Tavern openly refusing to acknowledge that it even happened!
The Magpies slipped out of the Premier League after a horrendous 38 games that saw big money signings fail to perform and despite investment mid-way through the campaign, the ship could not be steadied.
One man drafted in during the January window was Senegal international Henri Saivet, who arrived from Bordeaux with a decent reputation.
However, the 26-year-old managed just four league outings and was shipped away on loan to Saint-Etienne after the club dropped to the Championship, but his spell back in Ligue 1 has not been a success.
Indeed, Saivet has been so poor that But! Football Club are reporting that ASSE have already decided that they will not be keeping him on beyond his temporary stint, hinting that he could return to Newcastle this summer.
The African ace’s contract runs until 2021 and with very few clubs likely to be open to paying anywhere near the £5m Newcastle shelled out, it could be a few months before he’s moved on.
Newcastle should give Henri Saivet another chance – agree?
