Life amongst the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern is really rather miserable right now after a truly terrible run of results. Indeed, after a strong start to their Premier League campaign, Rafa Benitez and his men find themselves in the bottom three.
With that in mind, the only thing that is putting a smile on the faces of our resident Geordies is the idea of some shopping in the New Year sales. As takeover talk rumbles on, the punters clad in black and white really are eager to see Rafa handed the funds to keep the Magpies up.
So, having said that, a report from the Chronicle has shed some light into the Spaniard’s thinking. They claim the former Liverpool and Chelsea boss remains highly thought of at both clubs and may use his connections to potentially strengthen his squad in the New Year sales.
Indeed, at Stamford Bridge, Roman Abramovich is still reportedly a big admirer of the man who won his team the Europa League back in 2013 and Antonio Conte himself is understood to value Benitez’s ability to develop young talents.
All of this only shows just how lucky Newcastle United are in having Benitez in charge of the club. The Spaniard is a league above a club in Newcastle’s state and it’s imperative that the club back him.
