Newcastle owner Mike Ashley attended his first game in 18 months as Newcastle battled for a point against Crystal Palace.

The Magpies remain winless in the Premier League this season and in the relegation zone following a dismal start. The hosts were clearly the better side at Selhurst Park and almost took the lead through James Tomkins but his effort cannoned off the post with Mamadou Sakho also having a miss of the season contender. Nevertheless, Rafael Benitez’s side managed to hang on and snatch a point.

Ashley remains an unpopular figure amongst the Newcastle supporters and his appearance at the game will do nothing to save him from criticism. He is actively looked to sell the club with no buyers forthcoming leading to suggestions that he has lowered his asking price. Whoever is in charge needs to back Benitez in the January transfer window if the club are to beat the drop.

One man the former Liverpool boss should be targeting is Liverpool midfielder – Adam Lallana. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the England international was developing into a key player in Jurgen Klopp’s high-intensity pressing system at Anfield. However, a succession of injuries has seen him slide down the pecking order. Following the arrival of Naby Keita and Fabinho at Anfield, it’s hard to see him winning a place back in the side.

Signing Lallana could be just what Newcastle need to add some creativity into their attack. Salomon Rondon is yet to score since signing from West Brom and desperately needs ammunition in the front line. Lallana is known for his trickery and skill on the ball as well as having the ability to unlock defences with his passing.

Comfortable on either foot, Lallana also possesses a fantastic work-rate which would make him an instant hit at St. James Park. If he can put his injury problems behind him, the 30-year-old could prove to be a wonderful addition.
