Newcastle United supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their team edge past Manchester United 1-0 on Sunday to move out of the Premier League’s relegation zone and up to 13th place.
Rafa Benitez’s men slipped into the division’s bottom three prior to kick-off following Huddersfield Town’s 4-1 victory over Bournemouth earlier in the day, placing even greater pressure on the North East giants ahead of the visit of Jose Mourinho’s second place United. Yet the Magpies produced an inspired performance to deservedly get the better of the Red Devils, with Matt Ritchie’s strike midway through the second half enough to clinch a massive victory for Benitez’s side, thus propelling them up to 13th place in the Premier League table.
Subsequently, there have been many thrilled Newcastle fans in the Tavern this week, and they are likely to remain buoyant if news on their official website is anything to go by, which outlines that defender Paul Dummett has signed a new contract with the club.
The 26-year-old came up through the ranks at St James’ Park to earn his senior debut for the club back in 2013, which has since paved the way for a further 130 appearances for the Magpies, in which time he has managed three goals.
And while a hamstring injury has disrupted much of his current campaign, the left-back has started each of their last five Premier League games to suggest that he is an integral part of things under Benitez, and he has duly been rewarded with a new long-term contract.
And this agreement is sure to provide even more good news for our resident Magpies fans, several of whom are still very buoyant following Sunday’s win over United.
Landlord’s verdict: Paul Dummett only returned to the Newcastle United first team back in December following a lengthy spell out with injury, but has already reclaimed his place in Rafa Benitez’s starting eleven to underline his importance to the team.
And that importance has been highlighted even further as the 26-year-old has officially secured a new long-term contract with the Magpies, thus extending a spell with the North East giants that began almost two decades ago.
And this good news is only going to add to the feel-good factor among our buoyant Newcastle fans in the Tavern, who remain particularly upbeat following their team’s win over Manchester United on Sunday.
