Newcastle United enter the international break in the relegation zone of the Premier League.
The Magpies looked set to frustrate Manchester City at the weekend after DeAndre Yedlin cancelled out Raheem Sterling’s first-half opener. However, Kyle Walker crashed home his first goal for the club to leave Rafael Benitez’s side without a win in their first four fixtures. As well as their dismal performances on the field, off-field problems surrounding the club’s ownership continue to disrupt the team.
Newcastle fans are desperate to see Mike Ashley leave the club after Benitez wasn’t backed in the transfer market during the summer. Things do not get easier following the international fixtures with a visit from Arsenal next up. When the January transfer window rolls around, Ashley needs to give Benitez funds to strengthen the squad.
One man the Spaniard should target is Lokomotiv Moscow playmaker – Aleksey Miranchuk. Valued at £12.6m by Transfermarkt, the number ten has emerged as one of the most promising players in Russia after making his debut at just 17 for his side. He made 30 appearances in the Russian Premier League last season, scoring seven and assisting three, highlighting the threat he poses.
With Newcastle struggling to get service to Solomon Rondon in the attack, Miranchuk could be the final piece of the puzzle. The 22-year-old is an excellent dribbler, averaging 1.7 successful dribbles per game last season (WhoScored), and can unlock defences with his passing. The Russia international is exactly what Benitez needs to get his forwards firing.
If Newcastle are in danger in January, signing Miranchuk is a must.
