Newcastle lined up with a few new faces against Arsenal but the result was the same as their seven previous visits to the Emirates, with the Gunners claiming a 4-0 win.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring for the hosts in the second half to frustrate the Magpies, with Steve Bruce’s team enjoying a decent spell in the first half. The likes of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin posed a threat with their pace and direct running on the ball, with the latter producing fine skill and a cross that Joelinton perhaps should have turned in.
He also produced a scoring chance of his own when he took the ball past Hector Bellerin, but the angle was tight and Saint-Maximin could only drag the ball wide. Despite that, he completed four out of five take ons (per Squawka) in the opening period, and even after Arsenal’s two goals in two minutes he did his best to put the visitors on the front foot and was very unlucky when a strike came back off the post.
Should Newcastle give Andy Carroll a new deal?
As a result, it is fair to say he was let down by his teammates somewhat, particularly the lack of support from his striker Joelinton, which has been a recurring theme in Newcastle’s season as the one-goal Brazilian continues to struggle.
Not all fans were praising his display, however, with a variety of reactions being voiced.
Joelinton was on a mission to be everywhere what a guy, ASM's runs are immense to watch.

Saint Maximin would have atleast 10 goal contributions if he was actually playing with a striker

ASM needs to look up a bit more he’s trying to do too much. He needs to give and go at times to get in behind the defence he has the beating of then for pace all day long

Asm tries too much with the ball though.

ASM needs to get at Bellerin even more this 2nd half, he can’t handle him. It’s clear that Joelinton ain’t gonna keep up with him so ASM needs to start shooting from these positions

Joelinton and Saint Maximin class first half
