Ashley ‘angered’ by Benitez with plans to ‘use’ him revealed in Newcastle United report

It’s been a busy day of celebration for the Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern after Mike Ashley officially put the club up for sale yesterday afternoon. One of the most unpopular owners in the Premier League, the Geordie contingent haven’t stopped dancing.

For the punters clad in black and white, it’s been a long time coming for the Magpies who frequent the Tavern in their droves. Indeed, after two relegations for the Toon Army during Ashley’s time in ownership, the drinkers propping up our bar are excited to see the back of him at long, long last.

According to the Daily Mail, Ashley plans to ‘use’ Rafa Benitez’s presence in the dugout at St. James’ Park as a potential reason to buy the club from him. The Spaniard’s comments about his unhappiness at the nature of the club’s transfer dealings during the summer are said to have ‘angered’ Ashley, though he reportedly understood Benitez’s global appeal when it comes to selling the club.

As you can imagine, the Newcastle fans here in our bar are eager to see Ashley do whatever it takes in order to get rid of him quick.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Benitez is surely a big pull for anyone looking to buy Newcastle United right now. One of the best managers in the world, the Spaniard would certainly help attract more buyers, as well as players if some money comes in.
