The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are oddly nervous ahead of their FA Cup 3rd round tie with Luton Town at St. James’ Park later today. While the Hatters are all the way down in League Two, some of our resident Geordies are fearful of a giant-killing at St. James’ Park later today.
So, as you can imagine, our punters clad in black and white are eager to take their collective minds off of it. With that in mind, reports from the Daily Telegraph in regard to transfer activity has gone down really rather well this afternoon, with the members of the Toon Army here eagerly awaiting news on that front.
They claim that Newcastle hope to tie up a deal to land Chelsea winger Kenedy on loan next week after the Blues completed the transfer of England international Ross Barkley. They further reveal that Liverpool striker Danny Ings remains a target on Tyneside, though perhaps the most interesting transfer line is delivered later in the piece.
The Telegraph reports that Rafa Benitez and Mike Ashley both agree that the squad needs strengthening and, while the Spaniard is understood to be frustrated at not yet knowing his budget, he reportedly remains confident the club will deliver on some of his targets after handing a list to Lee Charnley.
As you can imagine, the Newcastle fans propping up our bar are delighted by such reports.
It’s absolutely imperative that Newcastle United bring in some reinforcements over the course of the next few weeks. Luckily for them, if this report is anything to go by, there looks to be a fairly settled state of play behind the scenes, despite all the turmoil off the pitch in recent months.
