Benitez could boost Newcastle’s attacking threat by landing Chelsea’s £4.5m-rated talent

The Newcastle United supporters are extremely concerned in the Transfer Tavern due to their side’s precarious league position with just 9 fixtures remaining to ensure their Premier League survival.

Despite putting in a resolute defensive display against a quality Liverpool side, Rafa Benitez suffered a 2-0 defeat on his return to Anfield due to goals from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane either side of half-time. Newcastle’s result has left them just 2 points clear of the relegation zone in 16th place with Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea all still left to play. It will be some achievement if The Magpies manage to stay in the top-flight this season, but if they do manage to beat the drop they will need to strengthen their squad significantly in the summer.

For all of Newcastle’s endeavour and hard work this season, it appears that they are lacking a handful of quality players who can provide a creative spark in the final-third of the pitch. The arrival of Kenedy on Tyneside from Chelsea provided the club with a well-needed boost in January, and the supporters will be hoping he can inject a few moments of magic at crucial moments before the season reaches its conclusion.

Considering Kenedy’s success so far, Newcastle would be wise to consider another one of Chelsea’s seemingly unwanted talents next summer, namely Charly Musonda (valued at £4.5 million by Transfermarkt) who is currently playing his trade in the SPFL with league-leaders Celtic. The 21-year-old has made 7 appearances for the Scottish giants so far, providing 1 assist in the process during a Europa League clash with Zenit St Petersburg.

Musonda’s opportunities to showcase his talents at the top level have been severely limited during his career so far, but when he has been involved for both Chelsea and Celtic he has demonstrated a confidence and willingness to receive the ball and make things happen. His creative spark is an asset which would do wonders for Newcastle’s attacking potency next season, and providing they avoid relegation, the club should make every effort to sign him from Chelsea either permanently or on loan.
