Benitez in meeting with Nickson as Newcastle United plan for spending in January

While most of the world wants to avoid the month of January like the plague, the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern really cannot wait for the New Year sales. Indeed, having watched their side lose two games on the bounce, our punters clad in black and white are eager to see some quality brought in.

Whether or not the Toon are taken over by then remains to be seen, though reports from the Chronicle have revealed Rafa Benitez could be in line for a cash boost heading into 2018 either way. According to their report, Newcastle (obviously) are among the Premier League clubs who will receive another chunk of the centralised prize pot in the New Year.

With that in mind, Benitez is said to have already met with Newcastle’s head scout – Steve Nickson – as he draws up a list of mid-season targets. The Spaniard is thought to be very eager to strengthen no matter who owns the club at that point, reportedly drawing up two transfer shortlists.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Hopefully for Newcastle, a takeover will soon be completed. If they have to shop in the bargain bucket again, a prolific striker may never come. That would be a nightmare for the Magpies, who need to bring goals to their team sooner rather than later.
