Though the season has otherwise been pretty good for the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern, two losses on the bounce have left our Geordie contingent rather down in the dumps as things stand.
Indeed, the manner in which the Toon lost at home to Bournemouth has annoyed our punters clad in black and white, who hope a takeover is soon on the card at St. James’ Park. With that in mind, claims from the Daily Mail have shed some rather interesting light on that very matter.
There had previously been talk of an Amanda Staveley-led buyout before Christmas and, according to the Mail’s report, Rafa Benitez has been planning for TWO outcomes ahead of the January transfer window. The Spaniard has reportedly drawn up two transfer shortlists for the New Year sales, one in case more money is pumped into the Magpies, or one full of bargain buys.
Having shopped in the cheaper market during a frustrating summer window on Tyneside, the Newcastle fans propping up our bar are clearly hoping it’s the first list they go off.
Newcastle are still in a relatively comfortable place in what should really be regarded as a consolidation campaign back in the Premier League. If they can bring in some more strikers – whether or not they’re taken over – they should be absolutely fine.
