Newcastle United fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting the club to bring a number of names into the team this summer as they look to build on last season’s impressive campaign.
Manager Rafa Benitez knows that he has a limited budget to work with during the transfer window and has a number of areas that he has identified that need strengthening, with a main man up front appearing to be a priority.
And, according to a report in The Shields Gazette, the Magpies have been offered West Bromwich Albion’s Solomon Rondon as a possible option, with the Venezuela international reportedly high on his list.
However, it’s not all good news for our resident Magpies fans, as Benitez reportedly has some concern towards the possibility of a deal for the striker, with the Spaniard unsure if he could stump up the cash to bring him to St James’ Park.
Rondon has a release clause of £16.5 million following the Baggies relegation from the Premier League, and they are keen to offload him from their wage bill – however, Newcastle are expected to only have a budget of £40 million unless they can sell any of their own players.
Thus, it very much remains to be seen whether or not the North East giants do indeed seal a deal for the forward this summer.
Landlord’s Verdict: Rondon would prove to be a good addition to the Magpies this summer if they were to sign him, having scored ten times during the last campaign.
However, with the number of additions that Benitez feels he needs to bring in, he could prove to be too costly for Newcastle to sign.
