Rafa Benitez will have a number of outgoings in mind in the January transfer window.
Newcastle United are not blessed with strength in depth, the lack of spending from owner Mike Ashley has meant the squad is always light in numbers and a number of fringe players just are not up to the task of helping the club stay in the Premier League.
Benitez could move a couple of players on who are on the periphery of the squad to raise funds for other moves.
With that being said, the Spaniard should look to sell this DUO in January…
Jamie Sterry has been at Newcastle since 2011, progressing through the ranks as a local boy himself. Having made six first-team appearances now, either side of loans to Coventry City and Crewe Alexandra, it is time Sterry was to move on.
The 23-year-old is third-choice right-back behind DeAndre Yedlin and Javier Manquillo, so there does not seem a way in for Sterry into the regular first-team setup.
A move to a lower division in English football, where Sterry could be guaranteed regular football would be the best for his career.
Joselu moved to the North East from Stoke City last season, looking to make his mark as Newcastle’s main striker.
Following four goals and one assist in 32 games last year, he started this campaign differently with two goals in his first three League games, however, he has not scored since then in late August and is evidently not cut out for this side, a stark contrast to Salomon Rondon’s form up top.
Like Sterry, Joselu should look to move to a club that can provide him the game time, which is likely to be in the Championship, where the 28-year-old can get back to scoring goals on a regular basis.
