After four Premier League losses on the bounce, the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are in a fairly miserable mood. Indeed, the manner of their loss to Watford on Saturday was seriously worrying.
Still, there aren’t too many Premier League bosses who could go on a losing streak such as this one and retain the full support of the Geordie faithful. Such is the nature of Rafa Benitez’s popularity on Tyneside, the Toon Army will still march behind him, regardless of this sticky patch.
Many of our punters clad in black and white are hoping a takeover is on the cards in order to strengthen in the January transfer market, so a warning reportedly given by Benitez to Mike Ashley has taken on more poignancy, considering their current state.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the Spaniard warned Ashley that a side built to win promotion from the Championship would only be equipped to battle against a return there once back in the Premier League. It’s obvious that Newcastle lack quality in front of goal, a serious concern for the punters propping up our bar.
The Magpies seem to have lost some of the organisation that made them so difficult to beat earlier in the season and, add that to their difficulty in scoring, things look bleak right now. The January window can define Newcastle’s season, no matter who owns the club at that stage.
