Bentiez working behind the scenes at Newcastle United as interest grows

Newcastle United fans will be cautious about celebrating their Premier League survival early in the Transfer Tavern following the win against Huddersfield Town, however, the three points will have eased some concerns.

Those joyous times in the local could be about to come to an end quickly though, with speculation that Real Sociedad are set to try and tempt Rafa Benitez back to La Liga, according to reports in the Mirror. The Spaniard is wanted at the Basque club to try and help them move up the ladder as they look to progress.

The news that the Magpies chief is wanted could be beneficial to him as he may look to use it as leverage to get more transfer funds available in the summer, as they look to strengthen a number of areas. As you can imagine, that’s come as good news to our resident Geordies, who’d love to see him handed more money.

Still, even seeing their universally popular manager touted for a move away is enough to send shivers down their spine.

Newcastle signed Kenedy and Martin Dubravka during the winter transfer window and their arrivals have helped the club steer clear of the relegation zone and put them in a better position to survive the drop. Benitez has also pointed to the acquisitions as the reason why the club have only lost two of their ten league matches in 2018.

Landlord’s Verdict

Newcastle fans in the Tavern will be keen that the club does everything they can to keep Benitez at St. James’ Park, whilst also hoping that the alleged interest from Spain will also force the board into action and give more financial backing to the side.

Losing him would be a huge blow and the punters propping up our bar are hoping it’s all a case of gaining transfer leverage.

Newcastle fans, are you concerned with the interest from Spain, or do you think Benitez will stay? Let us know below!
