Newcastle fans here in the Transfer Tavern are relieved to hear the news that Jonjo Shelvey is set to return to training this week as he began running again today. Although the Magpies propping up our bar all had the same question of whether he’ll be fit for this Saturday’s visit of fellow strugglers, Southampton.
Understand Jonjo Shelvey will return to training this week & began some running today. He has avoided serious damage after injuring knee v B'mouth last month. Good news for NUFC, he makes a big difference when on his game.

The news comes at a good time for Shelvey’s Newcastle, who sit dangerously close to the drop zone after an indifferent first campaign back in England’s top division. Shelvey and company will have to be at their best to reach the magic 40-point mark and ensure that the Toon Army retain their Premier League status for another season.
Our resident Magpies are also keen on having loan striker, Islam Slimani, fit and firing as soon as possible with just nine games left of the season to play. Slimani joined the club on loan in January from Leicester but has been ruled out through injury, with Newcastle fans are eagerly awaiting his debut.
With all that in mind, here’s a look at the Newcastle fans verdict on Shelvey’s recent injury update:
