Boost for Newcastle United fans as transfer report hints at much-needed swoop

Yesterday’s 0-3 loss to Watford has seriously annoyed the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern, who’ve now watched their side lose four games on the trot under Rafa Benitez. So, it’s safe to say they need some cheering up.

With that in mind, reports from the Daily Mirror have gone down a storm. They claim the Magpies chief is eyeing a move for Manchester United star Luke Shaw in the January transfer market, with the Toon Army struggling in the left-back position of late.

Paul Dummett has missed most of the campaign through injury so far, with Chancel Mbemba and Javier Manquillo deputising in the berth since the Welshman’s injury against Tottenham on the opening day of the season. So, the idea of seeing Shaw arrive on Tyneside has gone down very well indeed.

The England international has struggled to convince Jose Mourinho and has largely been left out of his plans at Old Trafford, despite his obvious talent. Indeed, the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ is understood to be open to the idea of a loan move for the 22-year-old, with Benitez reportedly keen to see how he develops with first-team football.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Shaw to Newcastle on a short-term loan deal makes so much sense for everyone involved. He gets first-team football at a big club, the Toon get a big boost in a problem position and United get to see their big money investment rediscover his best under a good manager.
